ETHIOPIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
The Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO) was established on October 10, 1991. Its three, interrelated objectives are to (a) contribute toward the democratisation process, (b) ensure the rule of law, and (c) ensure the protection and respect of human rights in the country. EHRCO's establishment was publicly announced on October 29, 1991. Even before that announcement was made, complaints were submitted to EHRCO regarding human rights violations, and after October 29, there has been a continuous flow of such complaints from many parts of the country. To date, EHRCO has issued 16 regular and 35 special reports on the numerous human rights violations committed against citizens by various government bodies and armed security officers.
